I was surfing the internet and came across your web site again. I love the portraits that you did and was wondering if you might be interested in a project I just started with my wife. I am looking for artists to donate some time painting an 11 by 14 canvas or slightly larger. The subject matter would be former slaves that has been recently freed. We have access to a number of gripping stories such as the one in the attached vision statement. My vision is to have a traveling exhibit that could be shown in Airports, museums, schools along with each story. We need the very best artists like yourself to chime in and lead the way in order to open the door with respect to painting standards and participating artists. Only 5% of the participating artists are men who seem to be disengaged despite our own national history with slavery.
We all get asked to do a lot of things, fund raisers, golf tournaments, appearances but this is one project that grabbed my heart when I found out that there are 27 million slaves in the world today, 2 million children annually trafficked in the sex trade and this criminal enterprise is fast becoming the number two criminal enterprise in the world. Most men are slow to embrace this subject but I followed up by reading Half the Sky –turning Oppression into Opportunity For Women Worldwide by Sheryl WuDunn and Nicholas Kristof. Changed my life.
Some things are a privilege to give to and I believe this is one.
You probably get a lot of random inquiries but you can check me out as I have been in Denver since 1975 and used to play for the Denver Broncos in the NFL with Randy Gradishar and Tom Jackson, Lyle Alzado etc…… if you are a football fan you might remember the names. However like most athletes, deep inside we all wanted to be musicians or artists!!! It took me years to become engaged with this subject matter as I didn’t believe the facts and I couldn’t relate but after spending most of my life networking with the privileged, I have found my small contribution to be of unimaginable joy.
There is a lot more to this project that I can express in an email. I can give you more info if interested about how this integrates with starting Justice Movements across universities, Justice Weeks related to ending modern day slavery. Links to web sites and partner organizations etc
Let me know if you have any interest or you would like to see a list of participating artists
Respectfully
